Sunderdhunga/ Maiktoli Trek
Sunderdhunga as the name meaning Beautiful Stone , Sunderdhunga trek is a
neighbor of the more famous Pindari and Kafni glacier treks. This is considered to be most beautiful trek of the three. Sunderdhunga trek follows river Sunderdhunga upstream from Khati village until its origin. The trail makes its way through thick forests which are home to many animals.
Pindari Glacier Trek
The Pindari Glacier, in the Bageshwar district, falls in the Kumaon Himalayas and has lured mountaineers and trekkers since the last century. It is one of the most easily accessible of all the Himalayan glaciers . The glacier flows to the south for a short distance of about 3 KM and gives rise to the Pindari River which meets river Alakananda at Karnaprayag in the Garhwal district. Owing to its accessibility and unmatched beauty the trek is a must do for all trekking enthusiasts.
The locals proudly refer to it as the Soul of Kumaon. It is located at an altitude of approximately 3,660 meters in the lap of the Pindar Valley. The trekking route to the Pindari glacier maneuvers into the rage of the Nanda Devi Sanctuary offering breathtaking views of peaks like Panwali Dwar at 6,683 meters and Maiktoli at 6,803 meters. The Kafni Glacier is the source of River Kafni, which is a major tributary of the River Pindari that merges with Alaknanda River and later pours into the River Ganga. The trek to Kafni Glacier snakes through some steep uphill sections laid with stones and expunges into the thick wood till maneuvering to the gentle meadows.
The Kafni Glacier Trek, which is an easy to moderate trek in the Kumaon Himalayan region is located close to the Pindar Valley and it takes approximately 6 - 7 days to cover the entire trek. It is a wise pick for the trio walkers to experience a trekking holiday in the Indian Himalayan region.
