Kolahoi Glacier is a valley glacier in the northwestern Himalayan Range situated 26 kilometers north from Pahalgam and 16 kilometers south from Sonamarg, in Jammu and Kashmir. This valley glacier is revered by the locals as the “Goddess of Light” for being the perennial source of water that powers major rivers such as Jhelum and Lidder. Kolahoi glacier lies at an average elevation of 4,700 meters (15,400 ft). The highest peak named after the glacier is Kolahoi Peak has an elevation of 5425 meters. The origin of the glacier is below the cirques on the north flank of Kolahoi Peak. It is the main source of Lidder River and its waters become the tributaries of the Jhelum River. Its water serves the population of Anantnag district, where it is mainly being used for drinking and agricultural purposes. The water finally discharges itself into Jhelum River near Khanabal Anantnag. Kolahoi Glacier trek takes you through the magnificent views of the Kashmir Valley. Kolahoi Glacier is the highest glacier in Kashmir. You walk along with this gorgeous creation of nature. The Kolahoi Pass Trek is once in a wonderful experience. It is a journey that allows you to reimagine the magnificence of nature alongside being an internal journey that lets you reflect upon yourself and embrace moments of serenity and peace. This beauty is the source of river Lidder. The trek takes you close to this glacier in the Himalayas. It is a lovely winding route midst tall coniferous trees of the altitude.

Trekking

  1. Day 1 Arrive in Srinagar-Shikara ride

    • On your arrival at the Srinagar International Airport, you will be taken for a 35 minutes’ drive through the heart of New Srinagar city, passing the Abdullah bridge which connects the banks of the Jhelum River.
    •  Arrive and check-in at the Nigeen Lake houseboat. 
    • Proceed for an hour of Shikara ride in the lake.
    • Visit Dargah Shrine in evening by walk,
    •  Dinner and overnight in hotel / houseboats.

  2. Day 2 Srinagar-Pahalgam – Aru (12.7km, 29min), - Lidderwat (6-7hrs approx.)

    • After breakfast we transfer to Aru Valley, from there on we pack our stuff on horses and start our trek,
    • The trek begins with a mild yet long climb from the village of Aru to Lidderwat. The trail snakes along the cool Lidder river.
    •  A few minutes into the trek, and you can see the beautiful area of Aru behind you. Soon the trail enters beautiful forests of fir, and opens out to the Dalla clearing. Now the trek becomes gentler and evener. 
    • About 6– 7 hours later, the trail curves into dense fir forests, and to the stunning meadows of Lidderwat. 
    • Camp overnight at the dreamy campsite of Lidderwat.

  3. Day 3 Lidderwat- Satlanjan (4-5hrs approx.)

    • After Breakfast, we prepare for the adventure ahead,
    • The third day has a comparatively steeper route. You walk past the Dudhsar stream, which is white as milk. The entire route is patched by boulders and gravel and you must walk carefully on this part of the trek.
    •  As you walk along the stream, mountains tower you both the sides and you walk where they meet on the ground. 
    • Chainable waterfall is one amazing thing you’ll see on the third day. It seems as if it is coming straight out of the clouds due to the height from which it falls. 
    • Overnight stay.

  4. Day 4 Satlangan to Kolahoi glacier and back to Satlanjan (6-7hrs approx)

    • After Breakfast, we pack for day trek to and fro for our adventurous and prime day ahead.
    • As this day is the 8-kilometre trek of day four will be covered in around 6-7 hours. After a slight descent to the valley, we walk straight in the valley to reach the Kolahoi Glacier Viewpoint. This is at a height of 11,000 feet and the nearest you can be to this grand glacier. This glacier is also known as the Matterhorn of Kashmir. 
    • It is the perennial source of water for the Jhelum River and the Kashmiris. The Kolahoi Glacier is a hanging glacier and is five kilometers long. Going closer is dangerous as the snow may be hollow underneath. It is advisable to follow the instructions of the trek leaders closely.
    • A clear sky would be boon for the trekkers. You could fill your reel with enough breathtakingly beautiful pictures that would last a year on Instagram and forever in your memories. 
    • After spending some time at this point, trekkers walk back to Satlanjan and camp there for the night.

  5. Day 5 Satlanjan- Lidderwat (4-5hrs approx.)

      • After Breakfast we trek back to Lidderwat 
      • We trace back the same route as we walk past the Dudhsar stream, which is white as milk.
      •  The entire route is patched by boulders and gravel and you must walk carefully on this part of the trek.
    • Overnight Camp stay at Lidderwat valley

  6. Day 6 Lidderwat – Aru (6-7hrs approx.) – Srinagar (102km, 2hr 36 min)

    • After Breakfast we walk on the last day as it must be paced as you climb down around 2,500 feet in a single day and can be tiring if you don’t pace yourself well. 
    • You catch the final glimpses of the mountains.
    • After you walk down to the starting point Aru, the team will ensure you are dropped back to Srinagar well in time via shared vehicles with fellow trekkers.
    • You can spend your evening time relaxing or enjoying in Srinagar. 
    • Relax in a Shikara, revel the local cuisine, and roam in the markets.
    • Overnight stay at houseboat/ hotel

  7. Day 7 Srinagar- Srinagar International Airport (11.5km, 32min)

    • After breakfast leave from Hotel/ Houseboat and drive to Srinagar Airport to connect to onwards destination with memories.
