WHITE WATER RAFTING

Rafts can function as either paddle rafts or oar rigs. In a paddle raft, the passengers are active participants. Each person uses his or her paddle to move the boat forward, while the stern paddler steers. An oar rig consists of a frame that holds the oars and provides a place for the oarsman to sit and a place to strap gear. Oar rigs are usually used on multi-day trips because of its gear carrying ability. Other types of inflatable crafts are catarafts and inflatable kayaks. Catarafts are basically inflatable pontoon boats that function similar to rafts, but they usually seat only one or two people.

Funyaks, or inflatable kayaks, are like one-person rafts that paddle like a kayak and can be used to run rivers or just paddle around the lake. Inflatable kayaks offer stability and comfort to neophyte kayakers. Because inflatable kayaks tend to be more forgiving than hardshell kayaks, they open up whitewater opportunities for those who do not know how to roll or feel uncomfortable in a closed deck whitewater kayak. Another benefit to inflatable kayaks is their portability. Deflate them, roll them up, and put them away! This would be a good option for you if you do a lot of traveling with your kayak. A raft is an inflatable boat. Catarafts and inflatable kayaks, or funyaks, also fit into the inflatable category. The key word is inflatable-they must be filled with air before they float.

Like with other adventure sports, river rafting is also classified in respect to degree of difficulty, to do, which it is essential that the river is first carefully studied and its topography analysed. Different courses are available and earmarked, so the pro and the novice, the edge-of-the-seat thrills seeker and the relatively staid can all enjoy the exhilaration of the sport.

And again, as in other sports, safety measures must be carefully ensured before an expedition in river running. The helmsman is key in this, and must be familiar with the river, its obstacles and other features along its route. The river guides we at Treks 'n Rapids use are all experienced and trained by the best experts in India and abroad. All provisions necessary for a smooth, enjoyable trip as well as in case of exigencies are carried on board. All rafters must wear life jackets and crash helmets. Back on shore, we ensure the availability of all medical facilities as well as every necessary arrangement for rescue and evacuation in case of any mishaps.
