Water Skiing is also considered very good for health. In addition to being a great stress buster, the sport is also good for physical fitness. The legs and arms are continuously exercised and strengthened as the skier pulls the rope and pushes with his feet. The skier is also in control here as, depending on his wish he may stop at any time by just leaving the taw rope attached to the boat.
This sport attracts many because of seemingly being risky, however facts prove that Water Skiing is a reasonably safe sport. Just like any other adventure sport, Water Skiing also demands high level of discipline and care from the participant's point of view. Most of the times the skier runs the risk of hurting himself only because of carelessness and inexperience.
For most, the experience of Water Skiing is divine. You feel like a bird as you glide on the water over your two skis, wind rushing past you and water spraying off your skis. The hardest part is the first step. The skier is generally nervous initially, but as he over comes his fear and practices, it is not difficult to even ski on advanced level.
The skier has to hold a tow line with a handle attached. Then he has to stand up from a knees bent position whilst sitting on the ground. The arms should be kept straight and not pulling the rope, rather allowing the boat to draw him out of the water to correct his skiing posture. After gaining the balance, next step is to start moving by pulling on the handle of the rope and turning the skis from one side to the other and keeping the skis parallel. This is the first big thrill in skiing and you are soaked into the world of excitement.
Asan Barriage in Uttaranchal and Goa are good places for Water Sports in general and Water Skiing in particular.
