KITE SURFING
Kite Surfing is an exciting new sport that uses a very large stunt kite to provide the power to water ski or surf with. Kite surfing systems are unique in that they have been specifically designed so that the kite can be easily re-launched from the water. There are now many kite surfing systems available. Kite surfing offers many advantages over other water sports like Windsurfing and Water-skiing such as:
- Quick set-up: ready to go in 10 minutes or less.
- Fast: the kite flys in cleaner and stronger wind than a windsurfer sail.
- Big air: the kite can be climbed high to easily pull you off the water then glide for 5 seconds or more.
- Light, compact and portable: no need for roof-racks/ one person single trip from your car.
- Self contained and no running costs: no need for a power boat with all the maintenance hassles and running costs.
- Multi-purpose: kite can also be used for buggying, body dragging, bare-footing on the sand, all-terran-boards, dirtsurfing, pulling waveski / canoes, etc.
Within the sport of Kite Surfing there are two main learning areas that a new participant will move through. These can conveniently be broken down into power kite flying skills and board skills. Within each of the learning areas are a series of skill areas, which go to form the overall activity. It is unlikely that many people will be able to combine these two areas from the word go, without some prior experience in one or the other. There will be short cuts for people who have either good board skills from a related sport or a high level of power kite flying skill. Kite Flying in India has yet to arrive in its full form. Though one can find some avid water sports and adventure sports lovers, mainly International travellers, giving a good vent to their adrenaline flow - enjoying Kite Flying on the coastal areas of India, especially places like Goa, Pondicherry and Andamans. If you are intending to fly two line then a sports kite will fit the bill for learning basic flying skills. If you are intending to try both quad and dual line flying and you are a beginner, start with the quad skills first. Regardless of whether you have had previous board skills, everyone should begin on a flying field, with all the common sense safety precautions that go alone with kite flying. more on this...
