HIKING
So its weekend again. Are you going to sit back at home, watching a mytho or a desi Sci Fi serial?? Or maybe sleep away to glory? Nah, coz then you wouldn't be here, right? So pack your bags and hit the road…on foot. India is a diverse country and in spite of our chopping away the woods like nobody's business (hope that stops soon), there is always a chance that you have some nice green spot or a hillock or maybe a dune close to your town. There are plenty of great opportunities and destinations for hiking in India. Be it hiking in Himalayas (which could be hiking in Uttaranchal - Garhwal and Kumaon areas, or hiking in Himachal Pradesh, or hiking in Sikkim and Darjeeling or the magnificient short hikes in Ladakh/Leh area), hiking in Maharashtra/Sahyadris (a.k.a. Sahayadris), close to Delhi/NCR region, Madhya Pradesh or hiking close to Bangalore in South India, it just requires a little push from within to move out of monotony and daily routine.
For the less adventurous and more time bound, In the frenetic lives we lead today , its easy to stay cocoons in our little time- bound worlds and not realize all that were missing out on . Were just too busy! So much to do so little time But take a moment and think . Is it worth losing out on some of the best experiences life has to offer when we have only one lifetime to live ? Experiences that will linger in our souls and remain treasured, memories long after the boardroom shenanigans have faded to imotingness. What is this life if full of care, we have no time to stand and stare, as wrote on insightful poet. There's hope yet, for the busiest of us. For the natural treasure that is this land of ours has a mind-boggling array of places just waiting to be discovered. Delightful places appropriate for that short weekend you have somehow managed to steal for yourself.
Places in every conceivable area so no matter where you live and how little time you have, there's still a little slice of idly you have easy access to, to treasure for years. So take a rain cluck on that at party and the sun movies and list the road with us. And leave the city out of your backspace.
For Delhi folks, you can explore the magnificient Himalayas in Garhwal, Kumaon and Himachal. Be it the short hikes from Rishikesh, Dehradun and Mussoorie or close to Nainital and Bheemtal or even the lesser known places in Himachal like Rodhoo (think beyond Kullu-Manali), all these places provide the heart filling and soul soothing tranquility, peace and bliss. Just remember to travel light and take the essentials like a first aid kit, rain wear (seasonal), good walking shoes, and a lot of water along. And for the Mumbaikars, come monsoons and its party time for hikers. Sahyadris offer excellent hiking destinations, Bhimashankar, Tikona Fort, Gorakhgadh, Naneghat, to name a few.
We recommend Kaudiya Night Hiking close to Whispering Pines, Dhanaulti.
